CANOE
NORTH ADVENTURES
return to Dreamweavers
Canoe North Adventures has specialized
in taking Ontario paddlers for the last ten years to the Yukon, Northwest
Territories and Nunavut. The company evolved out of requests from friends,
family and pottery customers to be included in some of the adventures that
they had heard about from Al and Lin in conversation and in the Farmhouse
Pottery newsletter.
In keeping with this rather humble beginning, Canoe North gathers most of
its clients by word-of-mouth and through pottery customers who visit Al's
studio in the Hockley Valley outside of Toronto. Groups are carefully constructed
based on compatibility and skill levels. Since Canoe North does not advertise,
its has the ability to build exceptional trips with interesting people. Canoe
North has had great success in designing trips where paddlers step out of
the canoes at the end of the trip with huge respect for their fellow paddlers.
Since Lin and Al guide all their
own trips, they take only a few trips each year. Always between one and three
trips although one year they guided five trips. That was just too many as
they are busy at home the rest of the year with their other businesses.
They train their paddlers here in Ontario on the Grand River near their home.
These pre-trip training sessions ensure that the group knows each other before
arriving in the north and that safety on the river is enhanced right from
the moment the canoes are put in the water. Lin and Al are two of the safest
guides in the far north taking care on the river that each paddler grows their
skill each day ensuring that river dynamics on all sections of the river are
clearly understood.
In recent years, Canoe North Adventures has been rated as one of the top guiding
companies in North America by its clients. Three hundred and fifty other guiding
companies share this honour with only two Canadian companies being listed.
They guarantee that each and every one of their trips are a huge amount of
fun. They are life-changing canoe trips. They know that these trips deliver
the dream that you have of travelling to the far north.
Our trips include the following: pre-trip training sessions on the Grand River;
